FAQ

  • What does the commission process look like?

It begins by filling out the interest form below. I will get back to you promptly about my availability for your commission. From there, I will do a free consultation by phone or email where we will discuss your idea, answer your questions, and get a sense for the feel and hope you have for this commission.

I love this part of the commission process. A painting is so much more than an image. It has the power to communicate values and evoke emotions in ways photographs can’t. My goal is to catch your vision and bring it into reality.

After your free consultation, I will send you a quote/timeline and a contract if you would like to move forward.

  • How Much does a commission cost?

I price commissions per square inch based on several factors including size and number of subjects within the painting. Generally, smaller paintings cost more per square inch than larger paintings. General commissions start at $500 for 5x7. For portraiture, I usually do not work smaller than 9x12. For this size, alla prima studies start at $1100. For more formal work, prices start at $3000. If you would like more information about how I price commissions, please reach out through the form below.

  • How long will a commission take from first email to finished painting?

This really depends on the project. For simple alla prima studies, the turn-around time can be as short as a month. For more formal work, expect the painting to take 3-6 months to complete. We can discus your timing needs and expectations if you have a specific deadline.

  • I want to surprise a loved one with a portrait, is that possible?

Absolutely! We have several options we can discuss in more detail if you wish to surprise your loved one.

  • Can I send you a picture to work from?

I achieve the best results and likeness when I am able to do studies in person and take my own reference photos. Because of this, I am happy driving to you within the Portland metro area. If you are out of state and not able to travel, I am open to discussing other options, including using your own reference photos. My main concern is delivering a painting that you and future generations will feel proud to own.

  • How about framing?

If you would like, I can professionally frame your painting in-house for the cost of the frame and a small fee.
